APPLICANTS ARE REMINDED OF THE FOLLOWING ARTICLES OF ASSOCIATION GOVERNING ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION TO PROFESSIONAL GRADES

1. The council may award the Professional Grade of Licentiate of the Society of Leather Technologists and Chemists (LSLTC), Associate of the Society of Leather Technologists and Chemists (ASLTC), or Fellow of the Society of Leather Technologists and Chemists (FSLTC) to suitably qualified members.

2. Eligibility for election to a Professional Grade will be determined by educational qualifications, practical experience in the leather or related industries, age, and length of continued membership of the Society as follows:

3. Individuals who offer to meet the criteria for each Grade will be invited to apply by Council. However candidates need not await an invitation before applying.

4. Equivalent qualifications awarded by bodies outside the United Kingdom will be accepted in lieu of those laid down in Sections 24,25,26 and 27.

5. The criteria for awarding Professional Grades may be changed from time to time by the Council and approved by the Society in General meeting.

6. Any member whose application to be admitted to a Professional Grade is rejected shall have the right to appeal against that decision to a meeting of the Council specially convened for that purpose of which the member in question has been given proper notice and at which a proper opportunity has been given of attending and being heard. The Council's decision regarding the appeal shall be final and binding. The Council shall be under no obligation to give any grounds for their decision.

7. APPLICANTS FOR LICENTIATESHIP OF THE SOCIETY
A. Shall be a member of the Society.
B. Shall have attained the age of 20.
C. (1) Shall have been awarded the Higher National Diploma in Leather Technology or other relevant subjects. OR (2) Shall be a Licentiate of the Royal Society of Chemistry. OR (3) Shall have obtained a Higher National Certificate or Higher National Diploma in a relevant subject. OR (4) Shall hold the Full Technological Certificate of the City and Guilds of London institute in a relevant subject. OR (5) Shall hold a BSc Hons degree in Leather Technology. OR (6) Shall have passed part 1 of the examination for the Graduateship of the Royal Society of Chemistry or Institute of Physics.
OR (7) Shall have passed such other qualifications acceptable to the Council of the Society.
D. Shall have attained approved experience in the science or technology of leather. It is not expected that sufficient experience would be gained in a period of less than two years. Approved experience may be gained before during or after the qualifications in Section 24C have been attained.
E. May be required to satisfy the Professional Grades Committee or some other body approved by the Professional Grades Committee in a viva voce examination and submit a dissertation on a topic previously approved by the Professional Grades Committee.
F. Shall have paid the fee stipulated by the Council and have paid the current subscription payable by a member.

8. APPLICANTS FOR ASSOCIATESHIP OF THE SOCIETY WHO ARE ALREADY LICENTIATES
A. Shall, since election to the Licentiateship, have practised the science or technology of leather for not less than three years and shall not be less than 24 years old.
B. (1) Shall provide evidence acceptable to the Professional Grades Committee of professional skill and maturity. OR (2) Shall have published work, which in the opinion of the Professional Grades Committee, is of sufficiently high standard. OR (3) May be required to submit a thesis or dissertation on a topic previously approved by the Professional Grades Committee. OR (4) Shall hold the City and Guilds of London Institute Insignia Award.
C. May be required to satisfy the Professional Grades Committee or some other body approved by the Professional Grades Committee in a viva voce examination.
D. Shall normally be sponsored by three members of the Society in Professional Grade (either Associate or Fellow) at least one of whom must be a Fellow.
E. Licentiates who have not qualified for Associateship by other means shall do so after 5 years as a Licentiate providing they are practising the Science or Technology of Leather.
F. Shall have paid the fee stipulated by the council and have paid the current subscription payable by a member.

9. APPLICANTS FOR ASSOCIATESHIP OF THE SOCIETY WHO ARE NOT ALREADY LICENTIATES
EITHER

A. Shall not be less than 25 Years of age.
B. Shall be a Member of the Society.
C. Shall hold the Graduateship of the Royal Society of Chemistry or Institute of Physics or a University or Council of National Academic Awards Degree recognised by the Royal Society of Chemistry or Institute of Physics as giving full exemption from the Graduateship examination.
D. Shall have gained approved experience in the science or technology of leather. It is not expected that sufficient would be gained in a period of less than 5 years in the industry. Approved experience may be gained before, during or after the qualifications in Section 26C have been attained.
E. May be required to satisfy the Professional Grades Committee or some other body approved by the Professional Grades Committee in a viva voce examination.
F. Shall normally be sponsored by one member of the Society in Professional Grade (either Associate or Fellow), at least one of whom must be a fellow.
G. Shall have paid the fee stipulated by the council and have paid the current subscription payable by a member.
OR
H. Shall not be less than 30 Years of age.
I. Shall be a Member of the Society.
J. Shall have been engaged in practising the science or technology of leather for not less than seven years and shall have attained a position of standing in the industry.
K. May be required to satisfy the Professional Grades Committee or some other body approved by the Professional Grades Committee in a viva voce examination.
L. Shall normally be sponsored by three members of the Society in Professional Grade (either Associate or Fellow), at least one of whom must be a fellow.
M. Shall have paid the fee stipulated by the council and have paid the current subscription payable by a member.

10. APPLICANTS FOR FELLOWSHIP OF THE SOCIETY
A. This is the senior award of the Professional Grade and signifies that the holder has made valuable contributions to the science or technology of leather or has reached a position of importance in the industry by the practice thereof. The Professional Grades Committee will require substantial evidence of professional maturity in the science or technology of leather although commercial experience will be taken into account in assessing the merits of the candidates.
B. Shall not be less than 30 Years of age.
C. Shall be a member of the Society.
D. Shall normally hold a position of appreciable responsibility in leather or related industry for a continuous period of not less than ten years.
E. Shall submit with the application, an account of experience gained with due reference to scientific and technological interests, achievements and publications.
F. Shall be sponsored by three members of the Society, all of whom must be fellows.
G. Shall have paid the fee stipulated by the council and have paid the current subscription payable by a member.
