Studies On Solubilisation Of Collagen And Renaturation Of Fibres

Abstract

Calf skin was solubilised with Britton-Robinson-buffer pH l9-l08, 004 M acetic acid, 004 M Phosphoric acid and 004 M boric acid, and the protein composition of the solutions thus obtained was tested. The effect of the Britton-Robinson-buffer at pH 34 and that of the citrate-phosphate-buffer at pH 34 were compared. Finally, extractions with 01 M acetic acid were made. The collagen-containing solutions were reconstituted and the amino acid composition of the precipitated fibres was determined at different stages, i.e. before and after the precipitation and in the pre cipitate. Conclusions concerning the extractability of collagen com ponents could then be made.
