The set of single fibres of chrome leather after extension, has been measured with the aid of apparatus built for the purpose. The results indicate that set is nearly independent of the magnitude of the initial exten sion, increases in the expected manner with duration of straining and falls off as the recovery period is prolonged. In all these respects the set of the fibres resembles set in pieces of upper leather, but whereas hot setting of pieces causes high values of set, the influence of temperature on the set of the single fibres is relatively small. The explanation of this difference is not known.
