The Reaction Of Mimosa Extract With Chrome Tanned Collagen. Part II. Reaction On Ageing

Abstract

A study has been made of the changes which occur in chrome tanned collagen retanned with mimosa extract when these leathers are aged under various conditions of temperature and humidity. It has been shown that both the polyphenolic tannins and the non tannins react with the chrome-collagen compound displacing sulphate which causes an increase in the acidity of the syster.. A masked chrome tannage results in less acid development on storage under normal conditions of temperature and humidity, but at elevated 111 temperature, masking produces more acid on storage. Thus an acceler ated ageing test using warm, moist conditions will not give results identical to long term storage under ambient conditions.
