Note On The Nitrogen Content Of Wattle (Mimosa) Extract
Abstract
Wattle extract has a relatively high (028-033%) nitrogen content reflecting the presence of 24-27% amino- and imino-acids. This necessitates corrections to hide substance (Ca —07 to —08%) and fixed tannin (+07 to +08%) values for sole-leather derived from closed circulator systems when using unbiended mimosa. On this basis the degree of tannage should be increased by four units. Tannin “losses” of up to l5% may result from such analytical error.
