Abstract

After outlining the present position of leather as a fashion material, colour matching and measurement are discussed. Develop ments in dyeing are then mentioned, with Procion dyestuffs dominat ing the discussion, as they represent a major advance in dyeing technique; however, they still have their shortcomings. Powder dyeings and solvent processes are also described. In the field of finishing, the important developments include coloured acrylic polymer resins, as welt as the widespread use of polyurethanes in patent leather finishing. Some time is devoted to developments in flow coating and other finishing methods, and the paper finally deals with new methods of testing colour performance.
