Abstract
When it is required to convert a series of analytical figures, possibly determined at different moisture levels, to some standard such as the customary 14% H20content of leather, it is useful to have available a scaled-diagram or nomograin from which comparable values can be easily read. The accompanying nomogram, given here on a scale on which one milli metre is equivalent to one part per cent, can be used with a ruler directly or it can be redrawn on a larger scale on graph paper to give direct readings with a simple straight-edge. A further modification enables a set of results to be converted readily to the “100 parts collagen” basis and it is anticipated that the nomogram method will prove of assistance in working mass-balance relations on a tannery flowsheet. It should be noted that it can also be adapted for setting tolerance limits (which will be converging lines) based on a final specification, for any stage of processing.
