Abstract
The nature of leather break and possible ways to improve it are discussed referring to the manner in which such improvement may be brought about by impregnants on corrected grain side leathers. The effect of impregnants on scuff resistance and “pullup” of leathers are considered. Chemical and physical characteristics of urethane and acrylic type im pregnants are discussed, together with the possible mode of action on leather of each type. Special attention is paid to particle size and penetration of these materials. Indications are given as to the stability of each particular type of impregnant for various classes of corrected grain shoe upper leathers, together with an outline of possible methods of application.
