The Specific Heats Of Pelt And Leather

Abstract

The specific heats of acetone dehydrated pelt and various tanned leathers have been measured in the range 15 to 105°c. For completely dried materials, the specific heat of pelt is I 36 joules/g.c°, and those of tanned leathers range from 136 to 129 joules/g.c°, depending on the type of tannage and amount of tan incorporated. If leather contains moisture, the thermal capacity of the moist leather is approximately equal to (but pos sibly slightly greater than) the sum of the thermal capacities of the moisture and the same leather completely dry.
