Relationship Of Mechanical Properties To Structural Variation Through The Thickness Of Skin And Leather Part II

Abstract

Mechanical layer analysis and preliminary interlayer force studies have been shown not to explain the subjective quality assessment of leather. Subjective properties are, however, related to the fibre weave and a low angle of weave, especially in the centre layer, can be expected to give rise to a coarse or loose break while a high angle of weave will produce a fine break. Such a leather, however, is likely to show a lower resistance to strain at lO% extension and have a lower tensile strength than a leather with a lower angle of weave.
