Adaptation of the Liritan No-Effluent Sole Leather Tanning Process to the Production of Strap, Harness and Belting Leather
Abstract
The no-effluent warm circulator tanning system which operates at 100°Bk for sole leather can be adapted for the production of the more flexible vegetable tanned leathers by alteration of the concentration of the tan liquors. It is suggested that 6 days tannage at 50°Bk and operating at 35°C would be appropriate for an initial trial. Short tanning times at higher barkometer strengths are not recommended for limiting the degree of tannage, since this results in non-uniform distribution of the tan through the pelt.
