The Compleximetric Determination of Zirconium in Solids, Solutions and Tanned Leathers Both in the Presence and Absence of Chromium

Abstract

A compleximetric method involving titration of zirconium with ethylene diamine tetra-acetic acid (EDTA) is described which is applicable to the analysis of solid reagents, solutions or tanned leathers containing either zirconium or mixed zirconium-chromium complexes. The method is rapid, reliable and more convenient to use, especially for routine analyses, than alternative gravimetric methods of analysis. It has been shown that, in mixed zirconium-chromium systems, there is no interference either in the determination of zirconium by the chromium present, or in the normal determination of chromium by the zirconium present.
