Comparing the electrolysis results of a chromium sulphate standard solution with cation and anion membranes, it was found that electrolysis with the cation membrane could remove more chromium. After electrolysis with the cation membrane of the mixed waste liquid containing chromium from chrome tanning, washing, chrome retanning and neutralisation, Cr(OH)3 could be precipitated, the Cr3+ solution showed a reduced concentration at the cathode, and a Cr6+ solution could be obtained at the anode. The results of this study show that cyclic electrolysis of such liquid waste containing chromium at the cathode can increase Cr(OH)3 precipitation and reduce the Cr6+ concentration at the anode.
