How To Apply For Professional Grades
Professional Grade Holders
1. Application for Licentiateship (LSLTC)
Any student studying a leather industry related topic is eligible to apply for Licentiate membership. Student members are warmly encouraged to join the Society and are able to use the LSLTC post-nominal designation for as long as they remain in active education/training. On finishing their education/training, the membership will revert to a standard Associate Membership as long as the relevant subscription is paid.
An applicant is required to submit a Membership Application Form and pay the appropriate reduced student subscription fee on an annual basis.
2. Application for Associate Membership (ASLTC)
An applicant for Associate Membership should fulfil the requirements for membership of the Society, meeting a combination of educational attainments and work experience, related to the leather industry. Associate members are entitled to use the ASLTC post-nominal designation immediately on being admitted as a member as long as the relevant annual subscription fee is paid.
An applicant is required to complete the membership application form and include a detailed current CV which documents the applicant’s work and responsibilities. This may include published papers, lectures given, industrial experience, any further studies, additional qualifications and achievements relevant to their career and profession within the leather industry.
3. Application for full Member status (MSLTC)
An applicant for full Member status should fulfil the requirements of the Associate Membership grade and meet additional requirements including a combination of educational attainments and work experience. For this progressive Professional Grade, an applicant must have worked continuously within the leather industry and have been a member of the Society for a minimum of three years. Full members are entitled to use the MSLTC post-nominal designation to reflect the enhanced level of membership, as long as the relevant annual subscription is paid.
Along with an application form, a detailed current CV must be submitted, which documents the applicant’s work and responsibilities. This may include published papers, lectures given, industrial experience, any further studies, additional qualifications and achievements relevant to their career and profession within the leather industry.
An applicant is required to submit the support of two sponsors who are current members of the SLTC and one sponsor who is a current member of Council.
4. Application for Fellowship (FSLTC)
An applicant for Fellowship should fulfil the requirements of both Associate and Member, and have been a member of the society for ten years. The applicant will also have worked within the leather industry for ten years and display a professional maturity in science, technology or commercial management.
Applicants not meeting the requirement for length of time in industry or membership may be considered for the Fellowship award, at the discretion of Council, if it is deemed that they qualify because of exceptional professional achievements or contribution to the Society.
An applicant is required to submit the support of two sponsors who are current members of the society and one sponsor who is a current member of Council.
Member Resignations and Professional Grades
If a member resigns from membership of the SLTC, the professional grading must be removed from letter headings, business cards and any other documents within twelve months. If an applicant re-joins the society, the reinstatement of a previously held Professional Grade is not guaranteed. A formal request, in writing, for reinstatement of the previously held Professional Grade must be served to Council for consideration, giving details of why the reinstatement should be considered. If membership lapses by non-payment of subscription, unintentionally or unavoidably, the Society will give sympathetic consideration to the applicant, on re-joining, regarding re-awarding a previously held Professional Grade.
All re-joining members must request the re-instatement of the any previously held Professional Grade in writing to Council. The final decision to re-award by Council will be binding.
The Society prefer, if possible, to present professional grading awards during the AGM. Other arrangements for presentation are possible if the applicant cannot attend the conference or the AGM for some reason.
