Mechanical Properties of Leather from Crossbreed Kid from White Goats Upgraded by Bucks of Boer and Nubian Breeds

Abstract

The studies assessed the strength of leathers in terms of their use for the production of selected grades of soft leather made from 21 F1 crossbreeds kid: a local breed of White goats (PB) upgraded by bucks of Boer breed (B) – (PB x B), (PB) goats upgraded by Nubian bucks (N) – (PB x N) and a control group of upgraded White breed.

Ten-month old kid leather crossbreeds from crossing White goats up graded by bucks of Boer and Nubian breeds have the required values of strength and sensory characteristics desirable for the production of gloves and clothing. Leather PB x B crossbreeds had lower tensile strength than that determined as adequate by the standard for leather clothing. Kid leather PB x N exhibited greater resistance to tearing relative to other groups through a thicker reticular layer, which predisposes them for use as shoe uppers.
