A Method for Measuring Shrinkage Temperature of Leather

Abstract

We propose an innovative method for the simultaneous determination of multiple leather samples’ shrinkage temperature via non-contact electrical measurement. We use a single-chip microcomputer (SCM) to manage the whole measurement process. While controlling the heating module to give uniform temperature increases, the SCM collects information from the sample displacement and temperature sensors and displays it in real-time on the screen. We are also able to transmit the raw data to a host computer via a RS232 serial port for further study, such as comparative analysis of multiple samples’ deformation process. Further, we have designed a standard sampling device that is easy to operate and effectively reduces human factors on measurement results. Our approach improves upon the traditional mechanical-contact measurement method and generates accurate measurement and real-time data display of leather shrinkage.
