Phenolic Constitutents of Parkia Clappertoniana Fruit Husk
Abstract
Aqueous acetone extract of the fruit husk of Parkia clappertoniana from Nigeria was successively extracted with diethyl ether and ethyl acetate. Catechin and ellagic acid were identified from the etheral extract, while rutin (quercetin-3-rutinoside) came from the phenolic fraction of ethyl acetate extract and both gallic and ellagic acids from its carboxylic fraction. Identification in each case was accomplished by means of colour reactions, paper chromatography and co-chromatography, using authentic samples and standard spectrophotometric techniques.
