Abstract
This paper deals with the synthesis of epoxy poly(dimethyl siloxane) from dimethyl dichlorosilane via the intermediate polymer, hydroxyl terminated linear poly(dimethyl siloxane), by reacting it with epichlorohydrin. These polymers have been characterised by FT-JR and FT-NMR techniques. This reactive silicone has been applied as a top coat on full chrome grain garment leather. The results were compared with non reactive silicone treated leathers. Various properties such as coefficient of friction, contact angle, gloss, water absorption (both static and dynamic) were determined.
