Abstract
An ion-exclusion chromatography method with post-column derivatization spectrophotometric detection was developed for the simultaneous determination of chloride and sulfide in tannery effluents. They were separated by means of a low pressure ion-exclusion chromatography column using a 0.15 mM sodium nitrate solution as the eluent. Detection limits of chloride and sulfide were 0.03 and 0.01 mg l-1, respectively. The relative standard deviations (RSDs) of peak area were less than 2.61%. The recoveries were between 97.54% and 106.23%. Unlike traditional methods, this validated method is inexpensive and stable.
