Chitosan in Leather Production Part 3: Build-Up Properties of Chitosan Pretreated Full-Chrome and Heavily Retanned Leather
Abstract
The extent of uptake of C.I. Acid Yellow 83 onto full chrome and heavily retanned chrome grain leather was enhanced by means of pretreatment with chitosan. The dyed pretreated samples were of a similar, but cleaner colour than their dyed, untreated counterparts. Pretreatment also enhanced the fullness and handle of both dyed substrates. Optical microscopy revealed that the polyaminosaccharide penetrated to the interior of the retanned leather.
