Clean Technology for Tannage with Chromium Salts Part 2: Pilot Scale Development
Abstract
The scale-up of a new tanning process in organic solvent medium is described. A pilot scale plant was constructed to treat 60-80 skins designed to produce leather meeting high standards for quality, safety and environmental protection. Considerably less chromium is discharged in effluents with this new process than in traditional methods. The economic and environmental benefits of this new technology are discussed.
