Abstract
Amino silicone oil was modified with the acetic anhydride to produce a fatliquoring system that yields excellent flexibility, smoothness and elasticity in the finished leathers. The effect of reaction conditions on amino conversion was studied. Results indicate that a 50% amino conversion level can be reached when the modifying agent level was 6.0% by weight of the amino silicone oil, the solvent was 55-65%, the reaction temperature was 50-55°C, and the reaction time was 1.5 hours. The treated leathers showed good fullness, softness, elasticity and had a silky feeling. Both the tensile strength and tearing strength of these leathers were improved (6.73% and 2.88%, respectively), and the elongation at break and hydrothermal shrinkage temperature were greatly improved by 30.82% and 10°C, respectively.
