Abstract

The paper examines developments and trends in the world meat market. Figures from current sources show movement away from the hide and skin producing meat industry towards the pig and poultry industry – which yields little raw material for the leather industry. Any relief to the situation could be supplied by Africa where there are current losses of one-third of the potential raw material. The sheep farming industry in the Southern Hemisphere is detailed as are developments in South America.
