The Grouping of Operations According to Workplaces on the Production Line

Abstract

In the organisation of production, this paper demonstrates the need to group similar operations according to workplaces on the production line with the aim (1) of reducing monotony by job enlargement, (2) to more efficiently utilise the workplaces at which operations are grouped together, (3) to reduce the number of workplaces, thus decreasing fixed costs, leading to optimal daily production, etc. The proposed method of grouping operations consists of a gradual (iterative) distribution of similar operations with the elimination of existing operations from the distribution. The method is illustrated by numerous practical industrial examples from the shoe industry.
