Abstract
Conventional uniaxial tensile test methods may only inadequately provide realistic information about the mechanical behaviour of leather under actual user conditions. A preliminary study to map the breaking stress and breaking strain profiles of goat upper using a biaxial testing procedure is described here. The results indicate that whilst the influence of the fibre matrix is retained, uniaxial tests generally tend to give higher results, a factor which needs careful consideration during design and development of end products.
