Effect of Masked Chromium Complexes on Thermal Stability of Collagen

Abstract

Hide powder was tanned with various kinds of masked chromium chloride solutions and components separated from the masked chrome solutions. The thermal stability of the tanned hide powders was studied by DSC. The thermal stability varied with the kind and amount of chromium complexes fixed by hide powder. Formato- and acetatochromium complexes with charges corresponding to +2 and +3 had a much greater effect on the thermal stability. Cationic oxalatochromium complexes also had a considerable effect, but anionic oxalatochromate complexes had little effect.
