Abstract
The correlation between the composition of vinyl polymer tannages and their properties were studied by using the two-power regression orthogonal design.’ Six monomers (AN-acrylonitrile, AM-acrylic amide, MAA-methyl acrylic acid. MMA-methyl methacrylate. VAc-vinyl acetate, EA-ethyl acrylate) were chosen to copolyrnerize with acrylic acid (AA) to form the corresponding copolymers. Using these copolymers as tannages. ten indexes of retanning properties. e.g. thickness increment, shrinking temperature increment. phys-mech properties, compressibility factor2,were measured. Using regression analysis the experimental cognitive equations relating properties with composition of tannages were derived. The form is v” = ax2 +/t.v+c ( p. a, It, c are regression parameters). The influences of tannages composed with different cornonomers on the properties of leather samples are also discussed.
