In this paper, the recent development of a leather quality test and three existing test models are reviewed, followed by the description of a new test model developed by the authors. The new model can be used to test leather bending and rigidity. Compared with existing test models, the significant advantages of the new model are that it is non-destructive and gives a high correlation with subjective evaluation results of leather handle. In addition, it is convenient to combine this model with other test models into an integrated test environment to measure compression, testing, bending and surface friction properties of leather. It is simple and can be used on-line.
