Odour Control In Leather Production

Abstract

Unpleasant odour is an inevitable “companion” of the leather industry. It occurs at different stages of leather production and effluent treatment. At some stages, its formation may be avoided or reduced to an acceptable level by various technological measures, but at other locations malodorous air must be extracted and purified. The odour formed during effluent or sludge treatment may be reduced satisfactorily by chemical or biological treatment of the air, while some advantages have also been ascertained when bio-filters were used.
