Some Effects Of Heat When Tanning With Basic Chromium Sulphate Powders
Abstract
The effect of heat on the chrome tanning process and the leather produced was investigated on a pilot scale using limed pelt from cowhides.
Tanning trials were carried out to show the influence of basification and the type of anion (either chloride or sulphate) used in the pretanning processes such as deliming and pickling.
The effects of prolonged aging after tanning at normal temperature or with heat applied were compared.
Changes in the pH values of the liquors held by the leathers were measured during the horsing up period which followed the chrome tanning.
