Abstract

Two resin emulsion types have been studied with a resin/casein ratio from 118:1 to 18:1, and applied by pad and spray or airless spray. Increasing casein content improves water vapor permeability and decreases the percentage set, but other changes in water vapor permeability are not connected to shape retention after preforming. Impregnation with an acrylate resin has been found to improve break, and this improvement is retained after preforming, while unimpregnated leathers became more pipey. Other properties examined include cover, wet and dry rub fastness, wet adhesion, and flex resistance.
