A Model for the Internal Structure of Hot Pressed Leather
Abstract
By subjecting scrap of mixed tannage skin or hide, previously reduced to fibres, to pressure and heat the internal structure of this raw material changes markedly going through well definable, consecutive phases. In this article the specified phases are described. By means of a simplifying model several unexpected phenomena that were observed with a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) are explained.
