Abstract

The dyeing behaviour of standard chrome leather has been examined in order to assess whether it can be considered indeed standard. The tests applied have been more extensive and appropriate than those used hitherto and comprised assessment of the simultaneous rates of exhaustion of two very different anionic dyes, the colour and levelness of the dyeings obtained, their depth of penetration, and their wash fastness. Within the limitations of these tests, the procedure for producing standard chrome leather is surprisingly satisfactory.
