Upholstery leather which was originally smooth is often blamed for stretching and becoming wavy after use. This phenomenon is known as bagginess and is a feature for which upholstery tanners in particular would like to be able to test. The BLC in conjunction with Stable Micro Systems has developed a method which automatically measures the set or bagginess of leathers. The method incorporates the use of a materials tester in conjunction with a purpose built jig (see Fig. 1) and specially written software.
