Aqueous Dispersions of Polyurethane lonomers as Leather Impregnants

Abstract

This investigation concerns the impregnation of chrome tanned pig skin with aqueous anionic polyurethane dispersions of different compositions and of different particle sizes. It was found that the penetration and the amount of the polyurethane precipitated into leather depends on the concentration, the quantity of the impregnation float, the pH value of the leather substrate, the pH value and the particle size of the polyurethane impregnant.
