Clean Technology for Tannage with Chromium Salts Part 1: Development of a New Process in Hydrophobic Organic Solvent Media
Abstract
We describe a new non-polluting tanning process using chromium salts. The various factors involved in the process were also investigated. The new process considerably reduces the level of pollutants in the effluent, and is suitable for large-scale operation. Complete exhaustion of the tanning baths, together with much higher chromium binding was observed with the organic medium than with the traditional processes carried out in aqueous media.
