Clean Technology for Tannage with Chromium Salts. Part 3: Cost Analysis and Integration into Different Manufacturing Processes

Abstract

The study of the new tanning method on a pilot scale with chromium salts in a liquid organic solvent immiscible with water confirmed the economic attractiveness of this innovating technology and its positive impact on the environment since chromium pollution is dramatically reduced. In this article we will compare the overall costs of a tannage in a liquid organic solvent with those of a traditional tannage performed in an aqueous medium, and we will study the integration of our method into different manufacturing process: particularly into the manufacturing of clothes, gloves and double face leather.
