Colour Changes in Wet Blue Leathers

Abstract

Wet-blue leathers were prepared in a factorial experiment, designed to study the effects of varying the type, concentration, basicity, and level of basification of the chromium complex on the initial colour and rate of colour change during storage. None of the variables affected the rate of colour change, over 45 days’ storage at 0°C. Between-sample variability of colour remained constant during storage, was slightly reduced by a common rechroming and approximately halved by dyeing. Good correlation was found between colour differences in wet-blue leathers and shade variations in the dyed leathers.
