A simple and sensitive method using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) has been developed for the determination of DMF in waterborne polyurethane (WPU) which is used in leather processing. Extraction of DMF is carried out by mechanical oscillation at room temperature for 10 minutes with water as the extraction solvent. Under optimal conditions, the limit of detection is 0.25mg L-1 and the recoveries are 95.2%~102.1%. The proposed method has been successfully applied to the determination of DMF in different WPU samples.
