Abstract
The recent developments in the solution chemistry of the soluble collagens have yielded methods which could be applicable to a study of the chemistry of tannery processes. Using these methods it is easier to make more precise physicochemical measurements than can be made with insoluble fibrous collagen. In order to assess the application of two of these methods a study has been made of the action of peroxide, chlorite and dimethylamine on collagen. The reactivity of these reagents was followed by measuring viscosity and optical rotation.
