Abstract

In this study, 1200 pairs of work shoes were examined that had caused complaints by users due to dampness resulting from perspiration in the shoes. It was determined that the upper leather was box calf, the lining was a polyether urethane-based synthetic textile product having a non-woven structure and the insole was a polymeric material of an ethylene- propylene diene rubber (EPDM)-based foam structure. It was also found that the water vapour permeability and water absorption properties of the synthetic insole used in the manufacturing of the work shoes were quite low. It was concluded that this prevented absorption of wetness formed inside the shoe and transfer of the damp to the air outside, and negatively affected foot comfort, causing user complaints.
