Investigation of Commercial Chrome-Tanning Systems
Abstract
The separation by Sephadex gel and cellulose phosphate chromatography of the complexes present in solutions of commercial chrome-tanning agents (Chromosal B, Chromosal SF and Baychrom A) is described. Changes in the distribution of the complexes in each solution were determined after ageing in both unbasified and basified (where applicable) solutions. This investigation has provided a basis for following the uptake of the various complexes in tanning of hide.
