Isolation And Characterization Of Phosphoric Acid-Soluble Collagen From Leather Wastes Of Pig Breed Bulgarian White

Abstract

A procedure for the extraction of protein from skin, bone and cartilage wastes by phosphoric acid hydrolysis was developed. The factors influencing the processes of hydrolysis were investigated. The amino acid composition, molecular weight distribution and infrared spectral characteristics of the collagen hydrolysates were determined. This relatively simple treatment of untanned leather waste may provide a practical and economical solution to the disposal of potentially difficult waste.
