Abstract

The validity and application of the mathematical model of the soaking process under actual production conditions has been investigated. Four full scale soaking tests were run in mixers with an effective capacity of 12 m³. The measured values obtained have confirmed the validity of the diffusion mathematical model and the possibility of its application to process optimisation. The kinetics of the process depend significantly upon the dryness of the raw hide – the process is conclusively slower for hides with high dry substance value.
