Optimisation Of A Retanning Mixture For Ovine Full Chrome Leather

Abstract

The formulation of a retanning mixture composed of a double salt of chrome and aluminium, a chrome phenolic condensate and an aldehyde tan was optimised to improve the physical properties of leather, such as tensile strength and tear strength. This study was carried out in a pilot plant. Ovine Australian clothing leathers were used. Other properties related to the handle, wear and thermal characteristics were also studied.
