Abstract

Colorimetric and chromatographic methods are extensively employed for the analysis of colourants in various fields like textiles, food, drugs, cosmetics. Inspite of the fact that paper chromatography (PC) and thin layer chromatography (TLC) find wider applications in the quality control of dyestuffs and their intermediates in general, their applications with respect to leather field seem to be very limited. A critical review of the available literature on this subject is presented here.
