Abstract

Inspection and testing plays an important role in ensuring product quality and safety and in promoting product quality improvement. Proficiency Testing (PT) is not only an effective technology of quality control for inspection and testing institutions but also an important way to evaluate the ability of inspection and testing institutions. Furthermore, it is a major means available for the supervision and management of inspection and testing institutions by regulatory authorities. The working mechanism, development process and organisation of PT is described and the shortcomings of PT in Chinaʼs leather field are studied in this paper. Finally, suggestions to promote the high-quality and sustainable development of PT in the leather field are put forward, for the purpose of providing a research basis for strengthening the supervision of the inspection and testing industry and promoting the capacity improvement of inspection and testing institutions.
