Seasonal Variation in the Intensity of Ovine Demodecosis

Abstract

The author has investigated the incidence of demodecosis (bubble) in sheep, correlated it to climatic factors and contrasted the severity of the disease in sheep with that in goats as reported by other workers. Evidence is put forward for infestation of the foetus with subsequent development after birth. The evidence for the latter point conflicts with established knowledge and it may be claimed that the techniques used cannot demonstrate clinical infestation after birth. The counter comments and opinions of two other authorities are included in the conclusions to the work.
