Some Alternatives to Natural Oils for Fatliquoring
Abstract
Some proposed alternatives to natural oils for fatliquoring are briefly reviewed. A description is given of a small scale fatliquoring method using acetone dehydrated, chromed, flesh split leather and a high speed shaking machine. Averaged scores from subjectively assessed test pieces are used to evaluate the effects of a number of compounds possessing structural features thought likely to confer fatliquoring ability. Some synthetic alkyl monoesters have been found to give good results by the test method employed and as a result, are now in full-scale commercial use.
