Some Investigations In The Development Of Methods For The Estimation Of Silicones In Leather And In Proprietary Products

Abstract

Methods are described whereby silicones may be determined in leathers and in proprietary products. An account is given of the experimental background to these methods. The techniques described are based either on the conversion of alkylsiloxanes to the readily volatile halosilanes, or on the hydrolysis of organometallic compounds (used as “catalysts” in silicone prepara tions) and the subsequent separation of the siloxane from the resulting metal oxides. The results obtained in a collaborative test of the method for the determination of silicone in leather are given.
